- Abstract
- Product Information: The Multiband Imager (MI) mosaics contain 34 mosaics in 32bit GeoTiff format of the topographically corrected reflectance data acquired by the MI in 9 spectral bands, 415, 750, 900, 950, 1001 nm bands from the UltraViolet/Visible (UVVIS) camera and 1000, 1050, 1250, 1550 nm from the Near-Infrared (NIR) camera, and the iron oxide (FeO) content and the mineral abundance maps for olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene and plagioclase. The reflectance has been corrected for the shading effects of topography by the SELENE team (Ohtake et al., 2008), and corresponds to the MAP processing level version 2 (MI_MAP_02) described in KAGUYA (SELENE) Product Format Description â Lunar Imager/Spectrometer (LISM (TC/MI/SP)) / SPICE Kernel, version 1.3 (2010). See Supplemental Information below. Each of the 34 mosaics (reflectance - 9 bands, FeO content - 1 band, and mineral abundances - 4 bands) covers 2° longitude by 2° latitude and has a spatial resolution of 512 pixels per degree (ppd). We downsampled the original data from 2048ppd to 512ppd, or 512 meters per pixel (m; using nearest neighbor interpolation) in order for the UVVIS (originally ~20 m) and NIR (originally ~62m) data to be at the same spatial resolution, which were subsequently used to derive the FeO content, and mineral abundance maps. All files are using Moon 2000 radius in a 32bit GeoTiff format. Mission and Instrument Information: The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) launched the SELenological and Engineering Explorer (SELENE) Kaguya spacecraft to the Moon in September 2007. The mission concluded June 10, 2009 when the spacecraft was intentionally crashed onto the lunar surface. Subsequent data collection and mapping efforts resulted in âthe largest lunar exploration project since the Apollo programâ (Haruyama et al., 2008). The high-performance optical TC, a 10-meter spatial resolution stereo-camera, was part of the Lunar Imager/Spectrometer (LISM) instrument suite (Kato et al., 2006), along with the Multi-band Imager (MI, 20 m; Ohtake et al., 2008)) and Spectral Profiler (SP; Matsunaga et al., 2008). For use, refer to the JAXA Conditions for material usage page ( http://jda.jaxa.jp/en/service.php ) and please credit JAXA and the SELENE/Kaguya data. ©JAXA/SELENE References: Haruyama, J., Matsunaga, T., Ohtake, M., Morota, T., Honda, C., Yokota, Y., Torii, M., Ogawa, Y., & LISM Working Group (2008). - The reflectance data was provided by the SELENE team and information about the MAP processing level reflectance can be found in KAGUYA (SELENE) Product Format Description â Lunar Imager/Spectrometer (LISM (TC/MI/SP)) / SPICE Kernel, version 1.3 (2010). See Source Online Linkage below. Each mosaic was created by the SELENE team by co-registering all the reflectance images acquired within a 1°x1° region, and then projected using a simple cylindrical projection.
- Completeness Report
- This product contains the data for 34 mosaics of 2°x2°. The MAP level reflectance data has been derived for the entire Moon and should be available on the SELENE Data Archive in the near future.
