Current Research Interests

  • Application of quantitative remote sensing techniques to the study of dynamic geologic and environmental processes, with an emphasis on volcanic and geothermal phenomena
  • Remotely monitoring volcanic activity (thermal features, gas emissions, ground deformation) using multi-sensor VNIR/SWIR and TIR data, e.g., ASTER, Hyperion, MODIS, Landsat ETM+, MASTER, FLIR, etc.
  • Remote spectroscopic compositional mapping for mineral, geothermal and planetary exploration using a synthisis of VINIR/SWIR and TIR spectral data
  • Development of future Earth observing satellite sensors, e.g. HyspIRI, for studying and monitoring Earth's active volcanoes and geothermal areas
