The USGS/NASA Astrogeology RPIF contains many unique research materials and artifacts. Including:

  • Images and films of Apollo astronaut training
  • Forty years of draft map materials including original airbrush images
  • Documents chronicling USGS Astrogeology's involvement in 50 years of space mission planning
  • Special document collections devoted to asteroid impact science, the life and career of Eugene Shoemaker, and astronaut training
  • An inventory of approximately 60,000 maps including over 2500 unique titles
  • Grover, the Geologic Rover, a full-size Apollo astronaut training vehicle from the 1960s
  • An extensive collection of vintage map-making tools dating to the 1950s
  • A complete set of early Mariner Mars mission imagery
