Accessing and using the GIS files

GIS-compatible files provided on this site include three formats: ARCView (copyright ESRI), Shape, and SDTS. Special software is required to view and/or edit these files.  ArcExplorer is a free arc coverage and shape file browser that can be obtained from ESRI (www.esri.com/company/free.html).  The latest version available when this site was made is provided in the folder "aexplore," along with two demonstration files created in ArcExplorer with data from this site (Mars south pole, and Io equatorial maps).

Each map on this site may have up to three coverages:

In addition, in the directory "arcfiles," ArcView 3.1 -compatable ".apr" files are also provided

To use these files, navigate to the location of the file(s) of interest. The directory structure for GIS files is:
