09/25/2002 - Gordon Swann hosted a reunion party the evening before the Dedication Ceremony. The party was attended by a number of old and new friends - scientists emeritus, pioneers who had been involved in the early days of the Astrogeology Research Program, and staff members from the USGS Flagstaff Field Center.
09/26/2002 - Around 300 guests were in attendance for the dedication of the new Shoemaker Center for Astrogeology building here in Flagstaff, Arizona. Guest speakers included Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison H. "Jack" Schmitt, Carolyn Shoemaker, Donald Beattie, Gordon Swann, Flagstaff City Council member Karen Cooper and USGS Director Chip Groat. After the ceremonies, visitors took tours of the new building, chatting Astrogeology scientists and staff, and meeting old friends.
