Professional Experience
United States Geological Survey, Geologic Division, Astrogeology Team
GIS/IT Specialist (1994-present)
Engineering/Cartographic Technician (1989-1994)
- NASA's Planetary Geology and Geophysics, Applied Information Systems Research Program, Mars Data Analysis and other NASA research programs: Development of Geographic Information Systems (GISs) including; GIS web sites, tools, and tutorials for planetary researchers. Compile planetary datasets and publish with ArcMap Server, ArcIMS and on-line OGC interfaces. Technical member of the Mars Pathfinder, MER 2003 Rover, Cassini, and HiRISE Teams.
- Global GIS: develop GIS interface, specialty routines and compilation of datasets for global 1:1 million datasets. The datasets compiled include the GTOPO (DEM), a wide variety of remotely sensed products, data on world oil, gas, coal, and mineral deposits, biodiversity, and geologic hazards (earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides).
- Technical GIS Manager: For large country-wide GIS databases for China and Afghanistan.
- Design of the Titan Swath Viewer (TSV) in ArcView for the Cassini satellite. This also included a redesign of the ArcView interface, which allows a novice GIS user to test different satellite targeting scenarios.
- Design and write tools in C++, PERL, and Python for photogrammetric and remote sensing software (ISIS) using Viking, Mars Global Survey, Mars Odyssey, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, Clementine, Pathfinder, MER and Magellan datasets. Creation of 3D, image, and DEM importers and exporters.
- Working with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and open geospatial software libraries to better support planetary coordinate systems and data sets.
